i will say though about the barbie movie, a lot of people are now doing their analysis and takes on barbie talking like she was feminist from the beginning, like she was body positive and telling girls they could be whatever they wanted from the very beginning when that really isn't true. for a long time barbie was skinny, blonde and white and very little else, there will be older women who watch the barbie film and hate it, not because they hate fun or whatever, but because they spent their childhood seeing the most popular toy being one that said they were good enough. just because that has changed with the brand in recent years and they made a movie that had a couple of jokes about it doesn't mean that it makes people killjoys for still feeling that hurt

When you think about it, Oppenheimer and Barbie go together perfectly. Oppenheimer is the "father" of the atom bomb, he creates it and sends it out into the world, eventually unable to control the uses and implications of his creation. Meanwhile, Barbie is a creation looking for meaning, who eventually goes beyond the limits of what she was originally imagined for (with her creator's acknowledgement that she has no ability to control Barbie). Both movies are about other things but they are also about the unpredictable nature of creations once they are in the world.

Whenever I see people say that they had no idea that Oppenheimer was coming out and what it even is about I am completely shocked and disappointed in humanity. But than I remember that not everybody is history nerd and has a specific hiperfixaction on Cillian Murphy’s filmography, which led them to become also Nolan fan. And that is just tragic

cillmequick answered:

Sad for them really. But not everyone can be as cool as we are so… 💅

(It is exciting seeing the Cillian awareness growing tho. Like hello newbies, he’s been hot for over two decades, you have much catching up to do, welcome!)

I’m genuinely wondering how people are possibly coming away from Oppenheimer thinking it’s prowar/pro atom bomb. Like I have to imagine they just slept through the movie and typed up some bullshit just to get clicks. It’s so blatantly anti facist and HEAAAAVILY critical of the creation of the atom bomb and the US’s choice to bomb Japan 🤡 Absolutely wild.

(Also seeing anti semitism stir up in response which is. Just fucking awesome I guess 🙃)
